Reduce China Exposure and Make Taiwan Great Again

As countries around the world seek to reduce their exposure to China, Taiwan finds itself in the center of the process. I just spent two months in Kaohsiung, Taiwan (working on a large multi-country project involving China, Taiwan and Indonesia) and during my time there I heard much about Taiwan’s response to the trade crisis.

Opportunity to Request DOC AD/CVD Administrative Reviews – Dec. 2021

There is now an opportunity to request DOC AD/CVD Administrative Reviews for products with AD/CVD orders with a December anniversary month.

We have posted about many antidumping (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) petitions that trigger investigations conducted by the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) and U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) on imports of certain products. Most of these cases result in AD/CVD orders being issued after the DOC and the ITC complete their investigations and make final determinations on whether a domestic industry is injured by subject imports (ITC) and to what extent those imports are dumped or subsidized (DOC).

China and 14 other Asia-Pacific nations recently signed the world’s largest free trade deal, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). As discussed in Asia-Pacific RCEPonds to Trump’s Snub, the RCEP’s launch raises uncomfortable questions for Washington, though it is actually quite modest in terms of member commitments. There’s nothing wrong with internationalism, but as

China as Currency Manipulator: Why Can’t We All Just Get Along?

I just read an article by Shaun Rein, entitled, “Why A Fast Appreciating Yuan Won’t Help US Economy,” and I have bones to pick with it. Let me start out by saying that I “talk China” pretty much every day and I have never spoken with anyone who believes all of the United States’ economic

Manufacturing Outside China: Nike Likes It And You Should Too

What can you learn from what Nike is doing? You can learn that there are plenty of countries other than China that manufacture quality items at a price that makes sense for a highly sophisticated international company like Nike and that alone ought to open your eyes to the manufacturing world outside China. Due to tariffs and shipping costs, manufacturing outside China makes increasing sense for many companies.

China’s Golden Age for Foreign Companies is Over

Let the hate mail begin. Whenever we write on how things are getting bad for foreign companies doing business in China and on how foreign companies should think long and hard before doing business in China, we get hate mail or hate comments (which we typically delete). Many of these come from China consultants who
