“Yeah, I think it was a youthful mistake and I didn’t continue it.”
New York Mayor Bill De Blasio, explaining his having smoked marijuana when younger.
Enough already with the “it was a mistake” political double-speak. It was not a mistake. It was a conscious act and you no doubt enjoyed it because you did it for many many years (and for all we know you are still doing it). Nobody says that their casual enjoyment of alcohol was or is a mistake and it is irritating that politicians like De Blasio are so quick to try to distance themselves from something to which no stigma should be attached. Fess up De Blasio, you smoked it and you kept smoking it because you liked it. Nothing wrong with that. But there is something wrong with not having the guts or the honesty to tell the truth and your failures on this score only make us wonder what else you are hiding from us.
We find this incredibly condescending and we just ain’t buying it.
