Our Quotable Saturdays usually focus on the absurdity of criminalizing cannabis, especially when used for medical purposes. But to be perfectly clear, we are of the strong view that in addition to the need to legalize marijuana so that all may freely use it as medicine, we also unequivocally believe it should be legalized for recreational uses as well. It is safe and, even more importantly, you should be free to make that decision for yourself.
For most, recreational cannabis has its positive side that does not rise to the level of medicine. For some, it is a stress reliever. For others, it enhances their social life. Many use it to enhance their creativity. People make the choice to use cannabis recreationally for all sorts of reasons and — whether good reasons or bad reasons — it should be their own choice.
Here, actor and filmmaker Joseph Gordon-Levitt offers his personal perspective on one of the reasons why he uses cannabis, stating how it positively impacts his creative process, and he certainly isn’t the only one who feels this way.
We’d love to hear from you. Does marijuana increase your creativity? How so? For what other recreational purposes do you use cannabis? Do you have a problem with people using cannabis for strictly recreational uses? Do you believe recreational cannabis should be treated any differently from medical cannabis in terms of legality? What about in terms of taxation?
